Starbase Phoenix Publishing specializes in fun, quality Science Fiction and Fantasy with an emphasis on stories written by minority authors and/or featuring minorities in leading roles.
Our Editorial Philosophy: Starbase Phoenix Publishing has been founded on the premise that Science Fiction and Fantasy should be as boundless as the category itself. It's our goal to bring minority and other authors' vision and voice to the masses through e-books and other media and show the unlimited potential, diversity of voice, and quality stories telling that is Sci-Fi/Fantasy.
If you've got a great story to tell, we're looking for you! We were founded on the premise that Science Fiction and Fantasy should be as boundless as the category itself. How can a black, Hispanic, or even a woman be out of place in a world that is totally made up? Too many times it's dismissed as "political correctness" or forced inclusion when all it really is, is people wanting to see themselves in print. We all have the right to be the hero, the villain, the game-changer, not just the sidekick, part of the ensemble, or the one who dies first. Remember, those that would dismiss this already see themselves well represented in the media.
So if your intent is to have a minority in your book, even playing a prominent roll only to have them die at some point, we are not interested in those types of manuscripts. Our mission is not just to print minority written or starring books, but also to promote them. Each day more minorities fall in love with Science Fiction and Fantasy but still, they are underrepresented in print and movie media. We want to help correct this. We want black and other minority authors to have a voice. We want them to have a place where they and their works can be appreciated for who and what they are. Then through marketing and advertising, the world can come to appreciate their works and people can come to love the authors, regardless of background.
Mission Statement: The genre is unlimited; shouldn't the stories, characters, and authors be also? It's our goal to bring minority and other authors' vision and voice to the masses through e-books and other media and show the unlimited potential, diversity of voice, and quality stories telling that is Sci-Fi/Fantasy.
Motto: A great book should be published, regardless of who wrote it.
Editorial Policy and Interests
We are interested in fiction in the following categories: Science fiction and fantasy, including urban fantasy, steampunk, and fantasy horror (vampires, werewolves etc.). We are not interested in fan-fic, or explicit material.
We are looking for first time authors, established authors, authors who no longer wish to self-publish, and especially those having a hard time getting their book looked at because it features minorities.
Author Submissions: Send an email query, a one-page synopsis, and the first three chapters of your novel.
Reporting Time: We have a small editorial staff. We will look over submissions as soon as we can but currently we cannot give an exact time frame. We have no policy against simultaneous submissions.
Any interested author or literary representative may request (by email) a copy of our standard contract.
We currently do not pay advances for novels. Whether submitted by a first time author or an established author, we pay eBook royalties as per our standard publishing contract based on net sales.
